Markets will value cash over caring
Article Abstract:
The professor of health policy and health services research and head of the Public Health Policy Unit at University College London criticises the trend in new Labour policy for the privatisation through the back door of public services, arguing that this only serves to penalise the most needy in society. It is contended that the Labour Government is actually on the brink of undoing the social contract that gave all members of society universal entitlement to education and healthcare and that it is doing this without any sort of public debate.

Article Abstract:
The chairman of the House of Commons education and skills select committee argues that Charles Clarke seems set to ignore any criticism of the UK government's education policies. The charges are made in the light of Clarke's response to the education and skills select committee's report on the future of universities which, it is claimed, lacks transparency and fail to contend with what the report has to say about the unique character of higher education in the UK.
