Article Abstract:
An analysis of how the role of government in personal health has changed since the 1950s. Until recent times, the government and politicians had been reluctant to make any large efforts in the field of healthcare, believing that health was an issue for the person and their doctor and that any such moves would be regarded with suspicion as an incursion into personal behaviour. It is only in recent times that the government has used healthcare as a way of reaching out to an alienated electorate.

A healthy e-volution
Article Abstract:
Issues relating to the intention of the UK's National Health Service (NHS) to offer online training to all of its staff, from porters to consultants, through the National Health Service University and the over UKPd30 mil contract that is up for grabs to supply the university with an e-learning platform are examined. Oracle, Logica, EDS, IBM, Capita and BT are the six main contenders to win the contract from the NHS, which, with 2.7 mil employees, is the world's third largest employer.

NHSU may lose its bid for title
Article Abstract:
The National Health Service in the UK may be forced to abandon its bid to get an university title for its planned teaching institution as a result of a critical government investigation. Such a move would be an embarrassment for the Government, which, in its 2001 election manifesto, pledged to create an university for NHS professionals and committed core funding of UKPd30 million to the project in 2003-2004.
