Maybe a banana is just a banana
Article Abstract:
Issues relating to the contention that Freudian psychoanalysis is outdated are examined from the point of view that we need to abandon reliance on the unconscious if we are to attempt to understand our changing lives. It is pointed out that while psychoanalysis is still widely taught and used in university departments of literature, film, cultural and gender studies as one of the many interpretive techniques available for use, it is not given any significant part in the teaching of most psychology departments, having been frequently denounced, and it is argued that it holds too high a place in our analysis of our culture and its development.

A heavenly home or oblivion
Article Abstract:
A professor of theoretical physics at the City University of New York argues that humanity is at a crossroads and that it needs to unite to harness the power of the stars if it is to avoid succumbing to primitive urges and self-destructing. The three categories of civilization suggested by the Russian astrophysicist Nikolai Kardashev are examined, with the human race currently not even registering as Type I on this scale.
