'Kicking around a cancer patient...'
Article Abstract:
Marine scientists have voiced their alarm at the state of the world's oceans, with John Pandolphi, curator in the department of palaeobiology at the Smithsonian Institution, stating that the way we currently treat the seas and coral reefs is akin to "kicking around a cancer patient". Ove Hoegh-Guldberg, director of the University of Queensland's Centre for Marine Studies echoes his sentiments, stating that the current situation is like a bad science-fiction novel and that humanity has got to the point where it is rapidly killing off entire ecosystems.
