Millennium makeover for v-cs
Article Abstract:
The Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals (CVCP) are planning to make changes to their organisation to meet the needs of devolution in the UK and the challenges brought by the global society. The new body will be headed by a board of 17 members. Three national councils will operate under the UK board. A national council for Scotland, one for Wales and one for England and Northern Ireland. Some observers suggest the regionalization of the CVCP will eventually lead to its dissolution. Others see regional councils being able to deal with more local problems.

A sector seeking a region
Article Abstract:
Some educational experts suggest higher education in the Midlands, England, should not be run as two separate regions, one in the west and the other in the east. Others suggest East Midlands universities are too diverse and are highly competitive which will prevent them collaborating. The development of sub regions may encourage the creation of links between the universities within the sub regions, such as already happening in Aston and Birmingham. Dividing the Midlands into smaller regions may also assist them in the acquisition of funding from Europe.
