Mothering with a spot of infanticide
Article Abstract:
Jane Goodall has spent much of her life studying chimpanzees. She discovered that they use tools and eat meat. She was accepted to study for a doctorate at Cambridge University despite not having a first degree. She has been independent and assigns gender to her chimps, although this was seen as unscientific when she began publishing her work. Goodall used her knowledge of successful chimp parenting with her own son. She discovered that chimps can be aggressive and cannibalistic.

Hostage to stress hits out
Article Abstract:
Terry Waite, who has undergone experience as a hostage, has attacked critics of post-traumatic stress disorder. The European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies' president, Stuart Turner, argues that attention should be focused on treatment rather than a debate on whether the condition exists. Police officers are among those likely to suffer from this disorder, and are especially affected by deaths of children. Treatment can reduce symptoms when included in a wider program.
