Article Abstract:
An exhibition of over 600 archaeological items from the lost city of Elba will be held at the Palazzo Venezia, Rome, Italy, until June 30, 1995. The Syrian city is located at Toll Mardikh. Only 10% of the 60 hectare site has so far been excavated. The city is at least 4,500 years old. The oldest form of the Semitic language has been found there.

Catholic militant organization Opus Dei, founded by Spanish priest Josemaria Escriva de Balanguer in 1928, has become extremely influential. Its membership has risen rapidly as has appeared to meet demand for spiritual involvement among the Catholic laity. Some Catholics admire the movement, while others regard it with suspicion.

Can of worms opens as Vatican's war archive stays shut
Article Abstract:
The work of a panel of academics that the Vatican commissioned to evaluate the role of Pope Pius XII and the Vatican during the Holocaust, has broken down because of the Catholic Church's refusal to open the Vatican's archives. The commission was set up in 1999 in reaction to claims in John Cornwell's book, "Hitler's Pope."
