NHS deal set to ban fees for nursing
Article Abstract:
Universities are to barred from charging tuition fees for nursing courses and other health courses under new contracts being developed by the Department of Health. Provisional agreements have also been reached with health and nursing deans on a system of bonuses and penalties designed to reduce the rate of dropouts from such courses. All other courses, including medicine, are expected to introduce variable fees and will not be subject to the penalties and bonuses system.

Bill Rammell, Higher Education Minister, has told higher education that much future success relies on providing more work-based learning. Mr Rammell has made it clear that work-based learning would play a major part in raising demand for higher education, helping to meet the 50 percent participation target for 2010.
