Article Abstract:
The chief executive of the Association of Colleges examines the challenges that further education colleges in the UK face as a result of the reforms recommended in Mike Tomlinson's report on the system of education for 14 to 19-year-olds. It is argued that for the changes to be implemented effectively, a carefully managed plan for the next 10 years will be required, however, it is acknowledged that reforms could cause a great degree of short term instability in the system

Article Abstract:
An analysis of the further education sector in the United Kingdom and what it could learn from the system of community colleges in the United States. It is argued that as a result of the planned overhaul of the education system in the UK, more vocational programs will be needed and these will probably be delivered by a system of community colleges not unlike those that operate in the US.
