New body for British postgraduates
Article Abstract:
The first meeting of the United Kingdom Council for Graduate Education was held at Warwick University at the end of July 1993, and the council's aims include improving graduate training, and the status of graduate education. Planned areas for action include sharing information and promoting best practice, though the council does not plan to take on an auditing role. The council is open to any institution with over 5 graduate students.

The age of 'strategic alliances'
Article Abstract:
Issues concerning the bids to fund new alliances between higher education institutions are discussed, with focus on administrative restructuring and resource sharing. Activities undertaken and advisory bodies established by councils to support inter-academic collaboration are presented.
