Sex and the Hildabeast
Article Abstract:
The vice-principal of St Hilda's College, Oxford University, believes that women-only colleges have served their purpose and the time has now come for St Hilda's to give up its women-only status and start accepting male students. It is argued that while the five women's colleges at Oxford played an heroic part in the advancement of women's higher education in the 20th century, modern women are more likely to want to compete with their male counterparts on equal terms, therefore the degree of protectionism given by the women's colleges is no longer required.

Industry fails to stump up
Article Abstract:
The Government's hopes that industry would increase its funding of university research in the United Kingdom are not being realised, according to a statistical analysis of higher education funding conducted by higher education consultants Evidence. The research found that investment in industrial research at universities actually dropped to UKPd227 million in 2003-2004, vs UKPd236 million in 2002-2003, while funding from the European Union, charities and research councils rose.
