'No-effort' courses under fire
Article Abstract:
The University of Glamorgan has been criticised for a scheme under which it recruits professional chiropractors as part-time students and claims teaching funding from the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales under a programme to award formal academic credits towards full degree and postgraduate qualifications. Under the programme the chiropractors receive credit for routine continuing professional development activities, such as reading journals and attending conferences, requiring them to expend little or no extra time or effort in order to earn the qualifications.

QAA queries Luton quality
Article Abstract:
The Quality Assurance Agency has reported only "limited confident" in academic standards at the University of Luton in its latest report on standards at the university. While the university's vice-chancellor Les Ebdon has stated that he will not allow standards at Luton to be compromised, fears have previously been voiced that the university's precarious financial situation has encouraged the university to compromise standards in order to attract and retain students.
