Northern learning lights
Article Abstract:
McGill University of Canada have collaborated with the Kativik School Board of northern Quebec to train teachers to teach the local community in their native language, Inuttit. The population numbers about 25,000 and the programme has been offered since 1975. It takes four to five years and includes Inuit child development, the language and teaching methods. Additional subjects are available to the trainee teachers, and in 1992 60 students are on the course, with 16 continuing to a Bachelor course at McGill.

Virtual politics, as seen on TV: Did Clinton's health care reforms perish in the glare of the TV lights?
Article Abstract:
Political leaders in the US use new-media formats such as talk radio and cable call-in shows. Enthusiasts of talk culture believe that politics can be made democratic, open, participatory and enjoyable. However there are limits of political power in the new interactive culture, such as the legislative fate of the Clinton health care plan, where specious television advertisments misrepresented the proposals.

Trapper comes out of the cold to teach
Article Abstract:
The Cree Indians of northern Canada have been forced to change their lifestyle by the building of a hydro-electric plant. They were awarded 90 million Canadian dollars compensation, some of which has been used to set up a community teacher training course at McGill University. Native Crees are trained as teachers and work in the Indian community, teaching younger members about their culture.
