V-cs told to root out extremism
Article Abstract:
Education Secretary Ruth Kelly has warned universities that they must identify and confront extremist behaviour on campus and defend the "moderate majority" of students. Kelly noted that, in the aftermath of the London terrorist bombings of 07 July 2005, universities had a duty to tell the police of they had concerns about criminal acts or "unacceptable behaviour".

Outstanding Contribution to the Local Community
Article Abstract:
The Times Higher Education Supplement gave its Outstanding Contribution to the Local Community award for 2005 to the Community Finance Solutions Research and Development Unit at Salford University. The way in which the unit has translated theoretical research into tangible help for the local community's most deprived members impressed the judges.
