Alison Elliot will make history on 15 May 2004 when she takes up the post of moderator of the general assembly of the Church of Scotland (CoS), becoming the first woman to take up a key post in the CoS. In addition to being a woman, Elliot will be the first moderator since the 17th century not to be an ordained minister.
