Pillar of tolerance
Article Abstract:
Muslim writer and lecturer Fadia Faqir says that her novel about the plight of Islamic women, Pillars of Salt, was inspired by the film Lawrence of Arabia. The lack of women in the film prompted her to begin writing about the lives and experiences of Arab women. Faqir graduated from Jordan University when she was 25 and accepted a scholarship at Lancaster University, England, where she wrote her first novel, Nisanit, based on the story of Arabs who were tortured in Israeli jails. She resided in the UK.

Article Abstract:
Academic couples can find it difficult to work in the same field without become vulnerable to accusations of nepotism or having to address mutual rivalry. It is common for academics in the UK to find work at the same university, or at least in the same town. Many find that they develop a symbiotic working relationship, with each inspiring the other. This can make it hard for them to avoiding talking about work when they are at home.
