Monumental idea in need of repair
Article Abstract:
London University is suffering from strains inherent in its being a federal university, with some schools seeking more autonomy, and pressures also arising from changes in external funding. Schools do not have to pay subventions, and though requests can be made, these may not be complied with. The university's constitution can only be changed by amending an Act of Parliament, and this involves seeking political support. However, a minor change in an Education Bill could allow the univerisity to have its own charter and statutes.
