Poll reveals pressure to dumb down
Article Abstract:
A survey of almost 400 academics working in universities in the UK has revealed that universities are now teaching students who are incapable of benefiting from degree-level study. The survey also revealed that students who did not deserve to receive passing grades were receiving them as a result of the struggle of university managers to maintain student numbers and teaching budgets. The results of the survey strengthen the argument that universities are being forced to dumb down in order to maintain their funding levels.
