An overview is presented of the involvement of scientists in the kitchen, which leads to unusual combinations of food and different techniques of food preparation. The perception of taste is affected by information form all of the senses and science-based cooking methods will produce different results from identical ingredients.

An analysis of how scientists can, through their determination that the theory they are putting forward is correct, battle through criticism from contemporaries to win public trust. It is noted, however, that it does help if the theory is actually correct and not simply a bizarre idea with no real scientific basis.
