RAE poachers take big game

Universities in the United Kingdom are hiring entire research teams away from other institutions as they attempt to boost their performance in the 2008 research assessment exercise (RAE). The universities are taking these steps in order to maximise their share of the billions of pounds worth of research money which will be allocated based on the RAE's results.

King's spending spree targets UCL

King's College London has launched an aggressive expansion and recruitment campaign in the clinical sciences just months after losing out a multi-million pound research partnership in the field to University College London (UCL). Universities in the UK have been warned that they need to raise their international profile if they want any part of the lucrative Singapore market. The UK is already losing out to the United States in regard to selection for investment from Singapore, with only three preferred institutions listed compared to 30 from the US.
