RAE shifts focus from prestige journals
Article Abstract:
Universities in the UK have been urged by the senior academics overseeing the 2008 research assessment exercise to abandon their obsession with prestigious journals, such as Science and Nature, and have been informed that all types of journals and research will be treated equally across all subjects. The guidance, if successfully implemented, would signal a paradigm shift in university culture, where academics have traditionally been pressured to publish papers in big-name journals in order to gain promotions or appointments.
