Rallying cry for a Northern Way
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the Government's plans for the regeneration of the North of England, dubbed "The Northern Way, of which universities are at the forefront. Under the Government's plans, universities in the region will begin collaborating on an unprecedented scale in areas such as course provision, research and marketing, with joint planning of interactions with industry and the widening of participation in higher education.

Vice-chancellors have been told by politicians and chairs of residents associations that they feel helpless faced with growing student communities which encroached into suburbs of cities and towns. Student ghettos are being created which are killing communities.
