Reader, you are not welcome
Article Abstract:
Issues relating to the benchmark statement for the teaching of English as an university subject in the UK that was produced by the Council for College and University English in order to comply with the requirements of the Quality Assurance Agency are examined. It is argued that it is in fact incredibly difficult to truly pin down a meaning for either the word "English" or "literature", and that current literary criticism conventions are only maintained by sidelining the point of view of the reader.
