Cash cow gets one up on 3 lions
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the rise of football nationalism ahead of the start of the 2004 European Championship football tournament in Portugal. It is argued that whilst football fans do have loyalty to their national teams, their true loyalties lie with the football clubs and the real financial benefits are with the clubs and not the national teams. It is pointed out that the winners of the European Championship will only receive about UKPd13 mil, while the winners of the European Champion's League tournament for clubs can expect to win up to UKPd25 mil.
