Big shot in the mind field

Article Abstract:

Francis Crick, aged 79, who has been researching consciousness with Christof Koch since the mid 1980s, believes that interest in the subject has expanded too much, which could have a detrimental effect. In April 1996 there was an interdisciplinary conference on consciousness in Tucson, AZ, Crick is concerned that flow of results will be gradual, with subsequent antipathy towards consciousness, and that the concept will become outmoded. There have not been many results so far, but media coverage has been too intense.
