Rock of ages
Article Abstract:
Simon Frith, the well-known 49-year-old rock journalist, says that age is irrelevant to music in some respects, but important in others. Frith, an English professor at Strathclyde University and Economics and director of the Social Research Council's economics and culture programme, says that the music is fashionable, and that rock music is now thought to be for older people. Frith also has a PhD from Oxford and says that young people can express themselves more easily through music than through any other medium.

Prophet in the policy cold
Article Abstract:
The experience and knowledge of Euro-enthusiast Professor Helen Wallace, director of the European Institute at Sussex University, are in great demand abroad but her pioneering work on Europe is ignored by the UK government with its Europhobic attitudes. Wallace believes that the UK has generated some important arguments on European issues, but regrets the fact that the UK is not a mainstream player in the European debate on a more predictable and regular basis.

The rational anthem
Article Abstract:
Rational choice by which people obtain what they want from a market, has become the subject of criticism. Donald Green and Ian Shapiro's book, Pathologies of Rational Choice Theory, states that rational choice modelling has failed in political and voting studies. Rational choice assumes that people seek what they want both logically and consistently.
