Scholar bites back at Stasi 'innuendo'
Article Abstract:
John Sandlord, professor of German studies at Reading University and an expert on the former East Germany, has published an angry rebuttal of claims put forward by intelligence expert Anthony Glees in his book "The Stasi Files" that he assisted the Stasi secret police in East Germany in the 1980s. Sandlord, who was a leading member of the East German wing of the campaign for European Nuclear Disarmament and a vocal critic of human rights abuses in East Germany at the time the collaboration is alleged to have taken place, has attacked the quality of Glees' scholarship and accused him of "offensive innuendo" and "snide insinuations".
