Scholar fires sex harrassment row
Article Abstract:
Mary Beard has been criticised for confessing that she feels a 'wistful nostalgia' for days when young female students were more likely to be harassed and 'pawed' by male tutors. Beard, professor of classics at Cambridge University, has written of the harassment faced by students of Eduard Fraenkel, Oxford classics don, and complained that this side of his character has been omitted from all biographies of the man.

Student poll is 'not valid'
Article Abstract:
The Government's national poll of student satisfaction in the UK has been declared invalid by leading members of the steering group that helped design it. Ivor Goddard, director-general of the Royal Statistical Society, and Harvey Goldstein, professor of statistics at Bristol University, contend that the survey did not include "essential requirements" which would safeguard against low response rates.

Article Abstract:
Newcastle University has withdrawn a series of essays published on its website following a campaign by vegetarians organised via an obscure dating website.
