Selective colleges: Do they offer a higher quality education?
Article Abstract:
The data from two national studies of student learning and engagement is challenged wherein the common perception that the best colleges are those that are the most selective is examined. It is believed that the students are not necessarily exposed to the most effective educational practices in the selective colleges.

Publications dealing with college and university rankings are often dubious. Reports on the most outstanding institutions of higher education usually involve the ulterior motive of marketing on the part of both the educational institutions and the publishers.
