Nord Anglia in race row
Article Abstract:
In an employment appeal tribunal judgment in summer 2001, a higher education subsidiary of Nord Anglia plc, a private education provider, was found guilty of racial discrimination against an Asian employee. The judgment could prove a problem in the British government's push for an increased private sector role in education.

Durham race case alive
Article Abstract:
A county court ruled in October 2001 that former student Dapo Ogundipe had a reasonable chance of success in his race discrimination case against Durham University, thus thwarting Durham's attempts to quash the Nigerian student's allegations. Ogundipe claimed his failure of three exam papers was the result of racial discrimination.

Survey reveals that taxpayers favour students over toddlers
Article Abstract:
The release of 2003's British Social Attitudes survey, the 20th to be undertaken, is expected to undermine a key justification for the government's introduction of university top-up fees, with the revelation that taxpayers would rather public cash was spent on university students than on nursery children. The survey will show that while 10% of people would like to see any additional money for education invested in nurseries, 14% would prefer to see it invested in "students at university". The survey will also reveal that support for education spending has risen to 66% from 50% over the lifespan of the survey.
