Tales from the little folk provide hangover cure
Article Abstract:
A number of examples illustrate the occasional fusion of academic writing and children's literature. C.S. Lewis, Jonathan Swift and Rev. L. Dodgson were academics who began writing for children in order to communicate their religious, political or social ideas. Academics have gifts which can be valuable to a wider audience, and it may be of personal and general benefit to use them in writing for children. Academics may, however, find it easier to publish or obtain finance for the re-writing of children's literature if they present it as folklore research or as a teaching aid.

Students get a fair chance to make a mark
Article Abstract:
It is important that universities and colleges create the correct balance between assessment practices that test students' knowledge and abilities and the critical skills that are seen as pedagogically sound by tutors and professional organizations. Peer assessment can play a valuable role in the assessment process, allowing students to discuss and challenge criteria and to obtain constructive feedback from somebody in the same situation. It is also effective in making students aware of what constitutes quality work.
