The Don Juans
Article Abstract:
Romantic relationships between university lecturers and students have become the subject of debate. Formal policies could help manage the problem. Such policies could be expressed in a number of ways, for example, staff could be advised that relationships with students they assess are undesirable, or they could be made to declare such relationships. Such relationships may also be banned. Problems arise due to the unequal distribution of power in these relationships.

Celibates in ivory tower find stardom: 'who are academics and what is their role?' Palgrave prize-winner Mike Finn looks at the once 'remote and ineffectual don' and finds that, although academia has not lost its idealism, communicating intellectual vitality to the public is more the rage nowadays
Article Abstract:
Academics and the academic life have changed remarkably over the years. Professors are no longer celibate and constitute a vital community, while students now search out academic courses much like consumers at a shop window. Academics often look to bridge the gap between themselves and the public by effective and entertaining communication; as academics redefine their role within society, they must become more relevant to society at large.

Lifting cap may exclude more
Article Abstract:
The UK government plans to eliminate the cap on the number of college students to increase social inclusion. However, the plan may actually exclude more because the top universities will target the rich for admission and the working class will be limited to lesser schools or online learning.
