Article Abstract:
A professor of psychology at the University of Plymouth describes how a spell on the university's working party on the revision of examination regulations led him to conduct research into bias in marking and cheating by students. The research revealed that cheating was more common than had been expected, and that experienced external examiners were no more consistent in marking exam essays than inexperienced markers or even third-year students.
