Article Abstract:
The 1939-1945 war involved co-operation between the UK and the US, but the interests of the two countries have often conflicted. The US sought to expand its influence while the UK sought to retain an empire, in the war. The UK misunderstood the aims of the US and placed too much importance on the supposedly special relationship between the two countries. The US did not understand the role of the British Empire and its contribution to international stability.
