Turf battles and scholarly monopoly
Article Abstract:
The author of a book on the Jewishness of Arthur Koestler defends his use of material contained in the Koestler archive at Edinburgh University, Scotland. His agreement with Koestler's literary executor to use this material is highlighted, and the fact that he only used a very small proportion of the material is discussed. The details of his conflict with Koestler's official biographer are presented, and his reservations about biographical material not being made widely available are considered.
