Aim higher and make money go further
Article Abstract:
The level of funding to UK educational establishments, for students over the age of 16 years, should be made far more equal and less biased towards higher education facilities. Colleges often seek to support the work of universities and therefore greater links between the establishments must be made. Universities still suffer from low participation of poorer sections of the community. The UK Government has called for 500,000 additional places at educational facilities, which in turn are demanding more funding. Ministers must ensure that funding is used to foster unity in education provision.

Universities go for a spin
Article Abstract:
Universities and colleges in Britain are focusing on marketing, a trend which emerged when the old division between polytechnics and universities was ended, student numbers increased, and fees were introduced. Consultants and agencies are being hired by many universities. Sheffield Hallam University emphasizes the need for cooperation between academic and marketing staff. New universities tend to spend more marketing their services than do older universities.

Gender deficit and tradition
Article Abstract:
Gender affects educational performance and this is evident from a study of Cambridge University, England. Universities need to be more explicit about what it is they are rewarding, and whether arguments or information are required. Cambridge University realised that women students were underperforming and studied the problem. The underperformance was remedied, but candidates' names are not revealed, so a different type of skill was being rewarded.
