US hackers target student databases to steal identities

Identity thieves are hacking into the databases of universities in the United States in order to steal students' personal information so they can obtain credit illegally. University computer networks have proven relatively easy to hack and have accounted for almost half of breaches that have resulted in personal information becoming available to identity thieves in 2005, according to the Identity Theft Resource Center.

Bush push to public accreditation

Republicans in the US Congress and the Bush Administration want university accreditation reports, which have traditionally been confidential, to be made available to students and parents.
