Article Abstract:
The 'jobs for life' culture in higher education should be abolished, with academics employed on rolling industry-style contracts instead of permanent lectureships, according to a paper produced by academics at Leeds University. The paper, which urges universities to employ staff on contracts that depend on performance and institutional income, has enraged academic unions that have been at the forefront of a campaign against temporary contracts.
