Unions say 'no' to pay talks

The Association of University Teachers and the lecturers union Natfhe have turned down an offers by the University and Colleges Employers' Association to resume talks on pay, subject to the unions putting planned industrial action on hold. The unions refuse to put industrial action on hold unless a 'substantive offer' is put on the table.

The Association of University Teachers (AUT) and Natfhe are taking part in a continuous boycott of student assessments and exams in support of a claim for a 23 percent pay rise over the coming three years. The unions have repeatedly rejected the requirement of employers that they suspend action before formal negotiations can take place.
