Urban lessons
Article Abstract:
First hand experiences in work settings would greatly help vocational education students determine their career paths. For urban areas, these programs are already implemented. However, in rural areas, the financial resources involved are major limitations for the provision of such service. Nevertheless, McCook Community College of Nebraska has found ways by which students can view real life career settings through a vocational study tour class offered by courses such as home economics, business, agriculture and vocational students organization.

Doctor, lawyer ... technical chief?
Article Abstract:
The result of a national survey done by the Foundation for Advancements in Science and Education shows children have little knowledge of career possibilities outside of the well known ones including doctor, teacher, fireman and lawyer. Technically oriented job are unknown to them. A lack of vocational education at the elementary school level is largely responsible for this ignorance. Because of a drastically changing job market, education associations and political leaders are stressing the need for career counselling in the lower grades.

When in Rome
Article Abstract:
Tulsa Technology Center teacher Pamela Imhoff brought 22 marketing students on a field trip to Italy to study the fashion industry in that country. Money for the trip was raised by selling cookies in the school campus, with the students using their marketing knowledge to push sales. In Italy, the language barrier and cultural differences made the trip difficult but at the same time exciting. Students learned about the intricacies of international trade and finance.
