Use of private money is a private matter
Article Abstract:
The use of public funds to support overseas activities by UK higher education institutions has been criticised by the National Audit Office, even though governments have urged them to undertake commercial activities for 30 years. Foreign activities are undertaken for several academic reasons, such as facilitating international cooperation, staff exchange and enabling joint teaching delivery. Institutions should be permitted to invest in foreign activities and should not be castigated if the investment fails to generate a profit, provided the return is balanced in the long term.
