Like mother, like daughter
Article Abstract:
Indian novelist Anita Desai became Massachusetts Institute of Technology's first professor of writing in 1993 yet admits that she would have been far too nervous to attend a writing workshop when she was starting out in her twenties. Her daughter, Kiran Desai, whose first novel will be published in 1998, explains that she is not a workshop type of person and considers it curious that she was encouraged to start writing by a writing class in Virginia. She is a student of creative writing at Columbia University in New York but confesses that she finds speaking in class a nightmare.

The mathematician and the mystic
Article Abstract:
Albert Einstein and Rabindranath discussed aspects of reality and determinism during meetings in 1930. Einstein argued for realism and objectivity in the physical world, while Tagore's views were similar to those of quantum theorists. Tagore's argument was that we can only think of nature in terms of structures we use, and these in term are linked to how we perceive the world. These are philosophical issues which have a long history, and which still have not been solved.
