Use passion to counter culture of compliance
Article Abstract:
UK universities are currently encouraging student compliance rather than debate so that they in turn can comply with government standards and help to alleviate the skills shortage. An interdisciplinary approach to higher education would foster a culture of contestation and debate, which would develop students' critical thinking skills.

Crossing borders can be risky but rewarding
Article Abstract:
An analysis of interdisciplinary research and the options such research opens up for researchers. It is argued that interdisciplinarity is necessary and that it can lead to new insights, however, it is conceded that a critical edge must be retained if confusion between disciplines is not to arise.
