Article Abstract:
Newly released British government papers from the 1960s show the support given by the then Technology Minister Antony Wedgewood Benn for the Concorde aeroplane despite its cost. The papers record how the British government were unhappy over sending troops into Anguilla. Their anxiety over the role of the Commissioner of Anguilla, Tony Lee, was also noted and he was dismissed in Apr 1969. Discussions on organ donation led to the abandonment of the idea of the public having to specify they did not want their organs used. The records were made public according to the 30-year rule.

What the other experts predict: Labour to win, just
Article Abstract:
The UK Labor Party is expected to win the next election, according to a survey of specialists on politics carried out in Mar and Apr 1996. Many of those surveyed see the ruling Conservative Party as unpopular rather than the Labor Party as popular. The election is expected in 1997, and there is little that the Conservative Party could do to stay in government. Tax reductions are not likely to work, though a war could benefit the government.

Breeding ground for governors
Article Abstract:
UK student unions often produce politicians who are prominent in national politics. Office holders in student politics accounted for 20% of 130 new politicians in the House of Commons in 1992. The Labor party tends to atttract university union presidents, while presidents of Cambridge and Oxford unions are more likely to be found in the Conservative party. Student officials have had to develop business schools as universities have become mass institutions.
