What type of student do you have to teach?
Article Abstract:
University students need to develop a deep approach to learning to ensure they have sufficient understanding of new ideas to question them, rather than relying simply on memorizing facts. It has been discovered students use a variety of methods to learn new ideas. Some prefer diagrams whilst others like to follow ideas in a logical manner. Holists take an overview of a subject and others prefer to discuss, read and write about new ideas. Lecturers must ensure they help all types of students learn to remember facts and to be able to understand the information being presented.

With brains in mind
Article Abstract:
Significant progress has been made during the 1990s in understanding more about the brain and about how people learn. It is now clear that emotions influence key learning abilities, and lecturers should be aware that devoting time at the beginning of a session to ensuring that students are in a receptive state can be very beneficial. Consideration should be given to boosting the motivation of learners by allowing them to have ownership of the learning and to exercise control over choice of task and learning styles.
