Who's afraid of teacher competency tests?
Article Abstract:
Competency tests are given to beginning teachers in over one third of the states, with the type of test varying from state to state. There has been some apprehension about the tests, but the overall reaction is positive. The tests are thought to improve teacher training programs and increase professionalism in the field.

The arts have been left out in the effort to improve the educational system. It is necessary to realize, however, that the arts play an important role in teaching students how to communicate across cultures.
