The editor of "The Philosopher's Magazine" argues that he is better off working outside the academic environment than within it. He acknowledges that there are advantages to working within the academic world when studying philosophy, but contends that the disadvantages, primarily consisting of the teaching and administrative burdens that would exist, outweigh the advantages.

An analysis of the detrimental impact higher education has on community and family cohesion. It is argued that, in the majority of cases where people move away to study at university, they never return to live in the place in which they were born and gradually lose touch with the area in which they grew up and made them what they are.
