Issues relating to a speech given by George Ritzer, professor of sociology at the University of Maryland, to sociologists at the annual conference of the British Sociological Association in York, England, in which he argued that global business is fast turning something into nothing and that consumers are no longer being offered products with any substantive content are examined.

What enriches the poor and liberates the oppressed?
Article Abstract:
Globalisation helps to liberate the oppressed and enriches the poor, so those that are protesting against it should instead learn to love it. It is, however, acknowledged that globalisation is only good in its central tendencies and that measures need to be taken to prevent the downside of globalisation.
