Railway companies track into communications
Article Abstract:
Eleven railway companies in Japan's Kanto area are planning to enter the communications business. Since these companies have already laid long lines of optical fiber cables alongside train routes for railway safety systems, it would be very cost-effective to use these optical fibers for general-purpose data communications as well. Some are considering to rent the lines to foreign communications firms who want to enter Japan.
