While others compete in price, Pioneer sticks with high-end PDPs

Pioneer Electronic Corp is focusing its attention on the production of high-end plasma display panels (PDPs) as price competition heightens in the market. While other PDP manufacturers are offering VGA models, Pioneer is selling XGA models to differentiate itself as a maker of high-quality products. The company is emphasizing the benefits of large picture size, excellent picture quality and the combination of XGA with digital HD broadcasting and DVD media. Its products are sold in 800 stores across the US under the Elite brand.

Pioneer deploys high-definition PDPs for digital TV race

Pioneer Electronic Corp's plasma display panel (PDP) PDP-501MX, an XGA monitor, has been performing favorably in professional and consumer uses, primarily in Europe and the US. The product, which simultaneously conforms to specifications for Hi-Vision displays and computer displays, features an XGA configuration corresponding to 768 scanning lines in PAL signal formats. Pioneer Electronics' sales come from North America, 40%, Japan, 20% and Europe, 40%.
